The story behind the Studebaker Avanti
The Studebaker Avanti arrived in Hot Wheels collections as a Treasure Hunt model during the 2011 release cycle. As a designated Treasure Hunt, this diecast car is part of a special subset produced to be more elusive than standard Mainline vehicles for that year. The design captures the sharp angles and sporty elegance of the real-world American muscle car from decades past. Larry Wood handled the styling duties to bring this classic shape into 1/64 scale. This particular version stands out with its distinct metallic paint treatment, making it a prized find for anyone hunting through racks at retail stores back in 2011.
Materials, colors and value
This specific casting features a solid metal body finished in a shimmering Metalflake Gold color that catches the light beautifully. The interior is molded in white plastic to provide high contrast against the gold exterior, while clear windows complete the look. Notably, this Treasure Hunt release sits on an unpainted base rather than the standard ZAMAC finish often seen elsewhere. Being part of the 2011 series with SKU T9725 adds specific identification value for catalogers. Because it holds the rare Treasure Hunt status, these cars are typically harder to track down today and hold a stronger appeal among adult collectors compared to regular runs.
Questions about the Studebaker Avanti
How do I know if my Studebaker Avanti is a real Treasure Hunt?+
Check the card for an orange flame logo in one of the corners. This symbol indicates it belongs to the special Treasure Hunt series from 2011 rather than being a standard Mainline car. The unique metalflake gold paint job and unpainted base are also strong indicators that this is the limited edition version sought after by collectors.
Is the Studebaker Avanti Treasure Hunt valuable today?+
Treasure Hunts generally hold more value than standard cars because they were produced in smaller quantities for retail distribution. While exact prices depend on condition, a loose example or one still sealed on its original card from 2011 will usually fetch higher returns due to the limited nature of this specific release.
What makes the paint job special on this car?+
The body is coated in a striking Metalflake Gold finish that gives it a glittering appearance under light. Unlike many base models which might use standard solid colors, this metallic treatment was designed to stand out visually when mixed with other cars on store shelves during its original release year.
