The story behind the Crate Racer
The Crate Racer is a standout model from the 2018 Mainline series that captures the wild spirit of custom car culture. Designed by Ryu Asada, this vehicle belongs to the Experimotors sub-series, which celebrates radical and imaginative automotive designs. What makes this specific release truly special for collectors is its status as a Treasure Hunt. These limited-edition models are significantly harder to find than standard releases and carry more prestige in the community. The car features a striking Metalflake Purple body that shimmers under light, paired with contrasting Green tinted windows. Its unique styling includes a distinct crate-style rear section that pays homage to grassroots racing aesthetics. Because it was released as part of a special hunt program, finding one in mint condition can be an exciting challenge for dedicated enthusiasts who enjoy tracking down rare variants from the 2018 lineup.
Materials, colors and value
This 1/64 scale diecast model features a plastic base that supports its bold design elements. The exterior showcases a vibrant Metalflake Purple paint job, which adds depth and visual interest to the bodywork. Inside, you will notice Chrome details on the interior components, giving it a polished look despite the simpler materials used for the chassis. The windows are tinted Green, providing a nice contrast against the purple shell. Collectors often value Treasure Hunt models higher than standard Mainline cars due to their limited production runs and unique color combinations. While exact market prices fluctuate based on condition and packaging, this SKU FKB21 item is generally considered a desirable addition to any Hot Wheels collection focused on rare finds.
Questions about the Crate Racer
How can I tell if my Crate Racer is a Treasure Hunt?+
Look closely at the base of the car for a small gold flame logo. This symbol indicates that it is part of the limited Treasure Hunt series rather than a standard Mainline release. The presence of this specific marking confirms its special status and helps distinguish it from regular versions found in typical retail boxes.
Is the 2018 Crate Racer considered rare for collectors?+
Yes, because it was released as a Treasure Hunt model, it is much less common than standard Mainline cars. These special editions are produced in smaller quantities and inserted randomly into packs or cases. Collectors actively seek them out due to their limited availability and unique paint schemes like the Metalflake Purple finish seen on this design.
What is the typical value of a 2018 Crate Racer Treasure Hunt?+
Value depends heavily on condition, with loose cars worth less than those still sealed in their original packaging. Since it is a sought-after Treasure Hunt from 2018, prices can vary widely based on current market demand and scarcity. Checking recent sold listings on collector forums or auction sites will give you the most accurate idea of what this specific SKU is currently trading for.
