The story behind the King Kuda
The King Kuda stands out as a top-tier collectible from the 2018 Hot Wheels lineup. Released as part of the Checkmate series, this model is classified as a Super Treasure Hunt. These special releases are incredibly rare and highly sought after by enthusiasts worldwide. The car features an aggressive design with a prominent supercharger protruding from the hood. Its Spectraflame Black paint gives it that classic vintage glow which distinguishes true STHs from standard models. Designed by Ira Gilford, this 1/64 scale casting captures the raw energy of drag racing culture. Finding one on the shelf was always a lucky break for shoppers back in 2018.
Materials, colors and value
This specific casting is made with plastic base material but features premium detailing that elevates its value significantly. The body carries the iconic Spectraflame Black finish, paired with matching black wheels and blue tinted windows. Inside, you can spot chrome interior details visible through the glass. Because it belongs to the elite Super Treasure Hunt category rather than standard Mainline production, original cards in good condition command higher prices among dedicated collectors today.
Questions about the King Kuda
How do I know if my King Kuda is a real Super Treasure Hunt?+
Check the paint on the body. A genuine STH version will have Spectraflame Black paint, which has a distinct reflective shimmer different from standard flat or metallic colors. It should also come with specific wheel variations and usually features unique window tinting compared to the common release of this casting.
Is the 2018 Checkmate King Kuda worth more money now?+
Yes, Super Treasure Hunts are generally valuable because they were produced in much smaller quantities than regular cars. Since this is a rare variant from the popular Checkmate series released during the 50th anniversary year, collectors often pay a premium for complete examples still attached to their original packaging.
Who designed the King Kuda casting and what makes it special?+
The design comes from Ira Gilford. The car is famous for its oversized supercharger sticking out of the engine bay, giving it a powerful look. It represents classic American muscle styling mixed with drag racing elements. This specific 2018 release was highlighted as part of the themed Checkmate assortment.
