The story behind the Head Starter
The Head Starter brings a serious dose of fun energy to any Hot Wheels collection. Released in 2019 as part of the Mainline Experimotors series, this quirky racer is designed by Ryu Asada and features an oversized silver engine block that dominates the rear chassis. While it might look like just another wild concept car at first glance, the Head Starter holds a special status for fans because it was produced as a Treasure Hunt model. This designation means you should hunt carefully on store shelves to find this specific version of the design, making your search much more exciting than finding standard cars.
Materials, colors and value
This unique diecast toy combines metal and plastic materials to create its distinctive look. The body is painted in a bright yellow finish that matches perfectly with blue five-spoke wheels. Collectors will spot variations on the base, which appeared in solid Blue, Dark Blue, or Metalflake Dark Blue depending on the specific box you find it in. Since this 1/64 scale model carries the SKU FYF93 and belongs to a limited series run, it tends to hold higher value than average Mainline releases once packaging is removed.
Questions about the Head Starter
How can I tell if my Head Starter is a Treasure Hunt?+
The easiest way to identify this car as a Treasure Hunt is by looking at the base. It will feature a small red and yellow flame logo painted on one side near the rear wheels or in the center of the chassis. Standard versions do not have these flames, so checking for that symbol confirms it is the rare variant.
What colors were released for this car?+
The Head Starter features a yellow body with matching blue wheels across all variants. The main difference between examples lies in the base color. You might find them sitting on bases painted Blue, Dark Blue, or Metalflake Dark Blue. All of these variations belong to that same 2019 Experimotors release window.
Is this a rare Hot Wheels car?+
Yes, the Head Starter is considered significantly rarer than regular store models because it was produced as a Treasure Hunt item. These limited runs are inserted randomly into packs throughout Mainline sets, making them much harder to track down for collectors looking to complete their Experimotors collection.
