The story behind the Street Creeper
The Street Creeper stands out as a major find in the 2019 Mainline series because it was released as a Super Treasure Hunt model rather than a standard car. Designed by Abe Lugo, this wild rod features an aggressive look with spikes and a creature-like engine block that matches its name perfectly. While most rods are made of diecast metal, this unique version uses plastic parts to achieve special effects like Spectraflame paint on the body. This finish gives the car a distinct glow under light, which is the signature trait of Super Treasure Hunts found in retail packs. It belongs to the Rod Squad theme and carries SKU FYG06, making it easy to track down for serious hobbyists.
Materials, colors and value
This specific diecast model measures at a standard scale of 1/64. Unlike typical Mainline releases that use solid colors on metal bodies, this Street Creeper showcases special Spectraflame Black paint over the base design. You can spot it easily by looking for the red undercarriage and gold interior details visible through windows with tinted blue shades. The exterior also features black graphics with bright yellow accents along the wheels to balance the dark tones. Since Super Treasure Hunts are produced in much lower quantities than regular cars, this plastic version holds significant value for collectors who enjoy completing rare sets.
Questions about the Street Creeper
How can I tell if my Street Creeper is a real Super Treasure Hunt?+
Look closely at the paint on the body and the base of the car. A genuine Super Treasure Hunt will have Spectraflame Black paint that shimmers under bright light, rather than standard solid black color. Also check for the red painted chassis underneath, which confirms it is part of this exclusive limited release series.
Is this version made out of plastic or metal?+
Even though most Hot Wheels vehicles use diecast zinc alloy bodies, this specific Street Creeper variant was produced using durable plastic components. This manufacturing choice allows the model to include unique surface finishes like Spectraflame paint and complex molded details that would be difficult or impossible to achieve on standard metal castings.
Why does this rod have a glowing finish instead of normal paint?+
The special glow comes from the Spectraflame coating used exclusively for Super Treasure Hunt releases. This unique application technique creates translucent layers that reflect light differently than solid enamel paints found on regular cars, adding depth to the black color scheme and making the model instantly recognizable as a rare item.
