The story behind the '88 Honda CR-X
The '88 Honda CR-X holds a legendary spot in automotive history as a beloved sports coupe from Japan. In the 2020 Hot Wheels Mainline series, this model appeared as part of the dedicated Honda collection designed by Ryu Asada. What sets this specific release apart is its Super Treasure Hunt status, making it one of the most exclusive versions available that year. While standard models circulate widely in retail packs, a Super Treasure Hunt variant features special Spectraflame paint and unique detailing that instantly catches the eye. Collectors eagerly hunt for these rare finds because they appear in very limited quantities compared to regular stock.
Materials, colors and value
This diecast model captures the sharp lines of the classic Honda CR-X using durable plastic construction typical of Mainline releases. The car showcases a bright white body with bold black and red racing stripes along the side, featuring prominent number decals on the door panel. It rides on striking red wheels that contrast sharply against the white paintwork. Inside, you will find a detailed black interior visible through the tinted windows. Because Super Treasure Hunt cars are produced in much smaller numbers than standard editions, this piece often commands higher prices among serious diecast enthusiasts who prioritize rarity.
Questions about the '88 Honda CR-X
How do I know if my '88 Honda CR-X is a real Super Treasure Hunt?+
You can identify a genuine Super Treasure Hunt by looking for the distinct Spectraflame finish on the body, which has a metallic depth unlike standard paint. Additionally, these models usually feature unique wheel colors and special base markings that differ from regular Mainline versions released in the same year.
Is this 2020 Honda CR-X considered rare for collectors?+
Yes, it is highly sought after. Super Treasure Hunt releases are intentionally produced in very low numbers and inserted randomly into select retail cases. This makes them significantly harder to find than regular Mainline cars, leading many serious collectors to view this specific SKU as a prized addition.
What does the GHG16 code mean on the base of the car?+
GHG16 is the unique Stock Keeping Unit assigned by Mattel for inventory tracking. It helps collectors and sellers verify exactly which version or color variation they have, especially since popular models like this Honda might be re-released multiple times with different paint jobs over several years.
