The story behind the '91 Mazda MX-5 Miata
The '91 Mazda MX-5 Miata stands out as a special find from the 2021 Mainline lineup. It was released in the Then and Now series, which celebrated classic models alongside modern favorites. Designed by Ryu Asada under SKU GTC93, this version is highly sought after because it carries Treasure Hunt status. Unlike standard retail cars, Treasure Hunts are limited editions marked with a small flame logo on the base to show their exclusivity. Collectors love hunting for these hidden gems in blind bags or display packs at stores.
Materials, colors and value
This model captures the classic look of the original roadster in a vibrant red finish. The plastic body features white racing stripes across the hood and sides, paired with distinctive multi-spoke wheels that add character to the design. Inside, you will see black seats matching the roll bar details. Since it is built on a 1/64 scale base, it fits perfectly into any standard collection case. Because of its Treasure Hunt rarity, this car often commands higher prices than regular releases and is prized by diehard fans.
Questions about the '91 Mazda MX-5 Miata
How do I know if my '91 Mazda MX-5 Miata is a real Treasure Hunt?+
You can confirm the authenticity of your car by looking closely at the bottom base. Genuine Treasure Hunt models feature an embossed flame logo near the rear wheels or along the edge of the chassis. This small icon indicates that it was part of the limited production run rather than a standard retail release.
Is this 2021 Mazda MX-5 Miata worth more money?+
Generally speaking, yes. Treasure Hunt models are produced in smaller quantities compared to regular Mainline cars, making them scarcer once they leave store shelves. Because collectors specifically look for these flame-logo editions, they tend to hold their value better and often sell for a premium on secondary markets.
What is the Then and Now series from 2021?+
The Then and Now assortment was a themed collection released in 2021. It featured vehicles that bridged the gap between past automotive icons and their modern successors. This Mazda MX-5 fits perfectly into that theme as it honors a classic sports car design while appearing alongside newer models from that same release year.
