The story behind the Surf Crate
The Surf Crate arrives in 2024 as part of the HW Getaways collection found inside exclusive 5-Pack assortments. This diecast model captures a fun sense of adventure with its beach-ready styling and surfboard accessory attached to the roof rack. Designed by Greg Padginton, the car features unique graphics that include an HW Surf Club logo on the side panel along with vibrant orange and black flames near the rear wheel arches. The 2024 release adds a fresh take on classic cruiser themes using bright colors like green and mint green for the body panels. These 5-Pack sets offer great variety, often containing several different models from one specific theme to help expand your collection quickly.
Materials, colors and value
This model comes in 1/64 scale with a sturdy metal base that provides good weight for running on tracks or shelves. The Surf Crate features distinct color variations depending on which version you find inside the pack. You can look for bodies painted green, mint green, or even solid mint alongside interiors colored tan or beige. Some versions include an unpainted chrome finish for the chassis and front suspension area while others might feature a full ZAMAC diecast base. The plastic wheels are black with gray inserts to match the retro aesthetic.
Questions about the Surf Crate
How do I identify which version of the Surf Crate is in my pack?+
You can tell them apart by looking at both the body color and base finish. Some have green bodies with ZAMAC bases, while others feature mint colors or unpainted silver chassis areas. Check for interior details like tan or beige seats to match specific production runs from 2024.
Is this car hard to find?+
Since it is released in multi-car bundles rather than single blister packs, availability varies by store location. You usually need luck when buying these assortments because each pack contains random cars from the theme set.
Does this model have real rubber tires?+
No, standard 5-Pack releases typically use durable plastic wheels instead of Real Rider rubber components. This keeps costs lower for larger bundles while keeping the ride smooth enough for most track play sets designed for children.
