The story behind the '71 AMC JAVELIN
The '71 AMC JAVELIN from the 2024 Target Retro assortment captures a classic American muscle look with modern Hot Wheels flair. Designer Jun Imai updated this car for the Ultra Hots Mix, giving it aggressive styling that pays tribute to street racing culture of the past. This specific model stands out because it features Spectraflame blue paint, which is a highly sought-after finish among diecast fans. It belongs to the Target Retro line, meaning collectors can find these special versions alongside standard retail cars in exclusive packs sold at Target stores.
Materials, colors and value
This car has a metal body and a base made of ZAMAC or unpainted metal depending on your specific pack version. The color options are very distinct for this release. You will see Spectraflame blue, solid blue paint, and an interior in black. It comes at the standard 1/64 scale size used across most Hot Wheels lines. Collectors who track down the Spectraflame versions often pay a premium price due to how hard these specific paints are to find in blind packs.
Questions about the '71 AMC JAVELIN
Is the 2024 '71 AMC JAVELIN Target Retro rare?+
The rarity depends on which version you buy. The standard blue versions are relatively common if you sort through enough boxes at a store. However, any car with Spectraflame paint is much harder to find and is considered highly valuable by serious collectors.
How can I tell the difference between variants?+
Check the finish on the hood closely. Some versions use a standard glossy blue enamel, while others have that deep metallic look unique to Spectraflame paint. You should also check if you want the unpainted metal base or the shiny ZAMAC silver finish.
What series does this diecast car belong to?+
This model was released in 2024 as part of the Ultra Hots Mix. It is a special Target Retro exclusive, meaning you cannot buy it at general retailers like Walmart or grocery stores.
