The story behind the 1985 HONDA CR-X
The 2026 release of the 1985 Honda CR-X brings a classic Japanese import back to life in Hot Wheels Mainline form. Designed by Ryu Asada, this model sits proudly within the HW J-Import series for 2026, celebrating the enduring appeal of modified street cars and rally-inspired aesthetics. The bright gloss yellow paint job is eye-catching right out of the pack, with bold black decals that include racing numbers and Japanese lettering along the sides. Black plastic wheels ground the look nicely while matching the dark baseplate beneath. As a standard Mainline offering rather than a limited edition variant, this CR-X will be widely available for everyday collectors who enjoy building themed sets or simply adding fresh detail to their shelves.
Materials, colors and value
This die-cast replica features a plastic body painted in vibrant gloss yellow with detailed black graphics and decals that evoke the spirit of Japanese car culture from the late 80s. The interior is molded in matching black, complemented by a solid black baseplate typical of Mainline releases at this scale. Measuring at 1/64 size, it fits comfortably alongside other small-scale collector favorites without taking up much space on display stands or track layouts. For most collectors today, especially those drawn to JDM themes or vintage Honda models, this car holds moderate appeal and may rise slightly in value if future print runs decrease or become harder to find.
