The story behind the '71 Mustang Funny Car
The '71 Mustang Funny Car from 2022 stands out as a high-performance tribute in the Hot Wheels lineup. Part of the HW Drag Strip series designed by Larry Wood, this model captures the wild spirit of NHRA drag racing with its aggressive stance and iconic Wild Pony livery. It is classified as a Treasure Hunt, meaning it was released in limited quantities alongside standard Mainline cars. Collectors hunt for these special editions because they are much harder to find on store shelves than regular models. With a plastic body available in colors like Burgundy or Metalflake Maroon, this car offers excellent detail at the 1/64 scale.
Materials, colors and value
This collectible features a durable plastic construction that keeps the price accessible while maintaining high visual appeal. The model showcases distinct paint variations including Burgundy and Purple bodies paired with clear windows. The interior is finished in Chrome to simulate racing details, resting on either ZAMAC or unpainted bases depending on the specific casting run. Because it is a Treasure Hunt release from 2022, this car holds higher value among diecast fans who seek out rare variants for their collections.
