The story behind the 2005 Ford Mustang
The 2017 HW Race Team series brought high-speed excitement to collectors with a roster designed for the track. The standout model from this lineup is undoubtedly the Super Treasure Hunt version of the 2005 Ford Mustang, created by designer Fraser Campbell. This car captures the aggressive look of a pro-street machine ready to dominate the drag strip or circuit. It stands out immediately because it carries that special Super Treasure Hunt designation. These releases are known for being incredibly hard to find in standard retail packs. The design features bold graphics celebrating Hot Wheels history, making this blue Mustang a serious target for anyone hunting down rare finds from 2017.
Materials, colors and value
This diecast model is built at the classic 1/64 scale and primarily uses plastic materials for its body structure despite the metallic finish. The most eye-catching feature is the deep Spectraflame blue paint on the exterior, which gives it a shimmering quality that standard models lack. You will see detailed decals honoring Hot Wheels racing heritage along with red-rimmed wheels that add contrast to the dark base. Inside, there are gray interior parts visible through the tinted windows. Because this is a Super Treasure Hunt car marked by the flame logo and special paint treatment, it commands higher value among serious collectors.
Questions about the 2005 Ford Mustang
How do I know if my 2017 Mustang is rare?+
Check for a small red and yellow flame logo on any part of the car or base. This mark identifies it as a Treasure Hunt variant. If you also notice that the blue paint has a special shimmering quality called Spectraflame, then this specific item is an even rarer Super Treasure Hunt model.
Is the 2017 HW Race Team Mustang valuable?+
Yes, especially when it appears as a Super Treasure Hunt variant. These cars are produced in much lower quantities than regular Mainline models. The combination of the unique Spectraflame finish and its scarcity makes this specific SKU highly desirable for collectors looking to complete their sets.
What year was this car actually released?+
Although it is a model based on a 2005 design, Hot Wheels officially released this version in 2017. It was part of the HW Race Team series during that year's Mainline production run.
