The story behind the Surf Crate
The Surf Crate is a standout model from the 2017 Mainline series. It belongs to the highly coveted Super Treasure Hunt category, making it one of the rarest finds for collectors that year. Designed by Greg Padginton under the SKU DVD10, this car captures the fun spirit of the Surfs Up theme while delivering premium quality. Unlike standard retail releases, Super Treasure Hunts feature special Spectraflame paint and unique wheels. This specific casting offers a nostalgic beach vibe with its detailed interior and distinctive red finish. Finding an authentic example requires patience since these limited runs are produced in very small quantities. The combination of its thematic appeal and exclusive status makes the Surf Crate a prized addition to any serious Hot Wheels collection.
Materials, colors and value
This model features a solid metal base constructed from ZAMAC or unpainted material, providing durability for display purposes. The body showcases Spectraflame Dark Red paint, which gives it a deep, metallic shine distinct from standard finishes. Inside, you will find beige interior details that add realism to the miniature design. As a 1/64 scale replica, it fits perfectly on most shelves alongside other Mainline cars. Because Super Treasure Hunts are extremely limited and sought after, their market value tends to be higher than regular releases. Collectors often look for the pristine condition of both the paint and wheels when trading or selling this specific casting.
Questions about the Surf Crate
How can I tell if my Surf Crate is a real Super Treasure Hunt?+
Look for the small flame logo printed on the card backing. This symbol indicates it is part of the limited Super Treasure Hunt series. The car should also have Spectraflame paint, which has a distinct metallic glow compared to standard finishes. Check the SKU number DVD10 on the card or base to confirm authenticity.
Is the 2017 Surf Crate worth more than regular Mainline cars?+
Yes, Super Treasure Hunts are much rarer and typically command higher prices among collectors. The Spectraflame paint and limited production numbers make them highly desirable. While standard Mainline cars are common finds, this specific casting is hard to locate in good condition, increasing its market value significantly.
Who designed the Surf Crate diecast model?+
