The story behind the '65 Mercury Comet Cyclone
The '65 Mercury Comet Cyclone from 2023 is a standout release for serious diecast fans. It belongs to the HW Gassers series, which celebrates high-performance drag racing culture with lifted front ends and massive rear tires. As a Super Treasure Hunt model, this car is part of an exclusive tier that goes beyond standard rarity. While regular Mainline releases are common finds at retail stores, Super Treasure Hunts are produced in much smaller quantities to surprise lucky shoppers. This specific version features detailed side artwork paying homage to drag racing sponsors and culture. Designer Brendon Vetuskey captured the aggressive stance perfectly with this 1/64 scale model.
Materials, colors and value
This diecast car comes built on a plastic base painted gray, supporting the classic gasser styling. The body is finished in Spectraflame black, giving it a unique and highly sought-after glossy appearance that differs from standard paint finishes. Inside the clear windows, you will find chrome interior details. Collectors look for these Super Treasure Hunt editions because they combine rare paint treatments with limited production runs. While regular Mainline cars are affordable entry points, this specific version commands higher interest due to its exclusivity.
Questions about the '65 Mercury Comet Cyclone
Is the '65 Mercury Comet Cyclone from 2023 a Treasure Hunt?+
Yes, it is specifically classified as a Super Treasure Hunt. This designation indicates an extremely rare variant produced in limited numbers compared to standard Mainline releases. These models are much harder to find at retail stores and usually carry higher value due to their unique Spectraflame finish and scarcity among collectors.
How can I tell if my Comet Cyclone is the rare Super Treasure Hunt version?+
Look closely at the paint job on the body. This specific release features a special glossy coating known as Spectraflame, which has a distinct deep shine that differs from standard matte or gloss paints used in regular releases. Additionally, check for any flame logos or TH branding near the wheels to confirm its exclusive status within the 2023 HW Gassers series.
What is the typical market value of a Super Treasure Hunt car?+
Values vary significantly based on condition and whether the item remains sealed in its original packaging. Since this model has an extremely low production count, prices often rise quickly after release. Collectors typically pay a premium for these items compared to common Mainline cars because they are considered hard-to-find treasures within the broader Hot Wheels catalog.
