The story behind the '68 Mercury Cougar
The 2026 HW Torque lineup brings a fresh take on American muscle with this release of the '68 Mercury Cougar. Designer Rob Matthes captured the raw energy of late 60s drag racing by giving this classic coupe a serious attitude upgrade. You can see that aggression in the wide rear fenders and the prominent hood scoop designed for maximum airflow. This model arrives as part of the standard Mainline assortment, making it an accessible addition to any collection rather than a hard-to-find rarity. The 1/64 scale casting features bold side graphics with orange and yellow accents that pop against the dark finish. It represents the spirit of hot rodding perfectly by combining vintage styling cues with modern muscle car proportions.
Materials, colors and value
This diecast model is built on a plastic base to keep it lightweight for play while maintaining durability on your display shelf. The exterior features striking color options including a vibrant Metalflake Purple finish or solid purple paint, accented with contrasting black interior details. Some variations showcase silver bases and chromed elements that catch the light nicely in photos. Collectors often appreciate how Rob Matthes handled the body lines to emphasize power and speed. Since this is a regular Mainline release from 2026 under SKU JJK56, it remains an affordable piece for hobbyists looking to complete their HW Torque series without spending too much money.
