The story behind the Surfin' School Bus
The Surfin' School Bus brings a playful twist to classic transportation design in the Hot Wheels lineup. Released as part of the Surf's Up series in 2023, this Mainline model captures that laid-back coastal vibe with its distinctive yellow and brown color scheme. Designed by Phil Riehlman, it features surf-inspired graphics including palm trees and beach motifs on the side panels. As a standard retail release rather than a limited edition chase or treasure hunt variant, it is widely available to collectors who enjoy themed assortments. The bus design nods to vintage school transport while adding a fun, summery aesthetic that appeals to fans of both classic vehicles and surf culture aesthetics.
Materials, colors and value
Crafted primarily from plastic with ZAMAC and chrome base elements, this 1/64 scale model features a bright yellow body paired with brown lower panels and windows. The interior is open without detailed seats or dashboard components. As a common Mainline release from the 2023 Surf's Up series, its value remains accessible for most collectors rather than commanding premium prices seen in rare chase variants. SKU HKJ32 helps identify this specific colorway among other school bus releases.
