The story behind the Renault Sport R.S. 01
The Renault Sport R.S. 01 arrives in the Hot Wheels catalog as a striking example of French engineering translated into miniature form. Released in 2023 under the HW Turbo series, this Mainline car captures the aggressive aerodynamic lines and racing heritage of the original prototype. Designed by Ryu Asada, the model stands out with its low profile and prominent rear wing that emphasizes speed even while stationary on a shelf. This is not a limited edition or chase variant, but rather part of the core retail lineup, making it accessible for both casual buyers and dedicated fans of automotive design. The vibrant red finish pops against the black base, creating a visual contrast that mirrors high-performance track cars. Collectors often appreciate how this specific iteration brings a modern interpretation to classic racing aesthetics without requiring expensive premium materials.
Materials, colors and value
Crafted from plastic, this 1/64 scale model features a glossy red body paired with smoke-tinted windows and a black interior detail package. The base is finished in solid black, providing a sturdy foundation for the white-spoked wheels that complete the look. As a standard Mainline release, it sits in the affordable end of the collector spectrum rather than commanding premium prices reserved for metal-bodied or limited-run variants. Its value tends to remain modest unless found sealed in rare packaging conditions or as part of a completed series set.
Questions about the Renault Sport R.S. 01
Is the Renault Sport R.S. 01 Hot Wheels car rare?+
No, this is a standard Mainline release from 2023 within the HW Turbo assortment. It does not carry any special markers like a flame logo or Spectraflame paint that would indicate it is a Treasure Hunt or Super Treasure Hunt variant, making it relatively easy to find at retail stores.
What scale and material is this Hot Wheels model made of?+
The car is built on the standard 1/64 scale used for most Mass Market releases. The body consists entirely of plastic rather than metal, which keeps the manufacturing cost lower while still allowing for detailed molding features like the large rear wing and intricate wheel spokes visible in the design.
How can I identify this specific Hot Wheels car?+
Look for the SKU code HKJ38 on the packaging or product listing to confirm you have the 2023 version. The visual identifiers include a bright red plastic body, black base, smoke-colored windows, and distinctive white wheels with black centers that match the original Renault Sport livery.
