The story behind the Boom Car
The Boom Car brings a unique twist to the Hot Wheels lineup as part of the HW Ride-Ons series in 2024. Designed by Tyler Charest, this quirky model looks like a rideable cement mixer that has been converted into a fun vehicle for kids or small figures. It sits squarely in the Mainline assortment, which means it is widely available at major retailers worldwide. While Mainline cars are produced in large quantities and are generally easy to find, the novelty of this design makes it stand out on store shelves. The Boom Car captures the playful spirit often found in special themed releases without being a rare Treasure Hunt or limited edition item.
Materials, colors and value
This model features an all-plastic construction that mimics the heavy-duty look of real work vehicles. The base is cast in solid brown plastic, providing a sturdy foundation for the large mixing drum. You will find color variations where the body appears entirely yellow, or as a vibrant combination of red and yellow with black flame graphics on top. All versions include detailed black interiors to represent the driver area. At 1/64 scale, it fits perfectly alongside standard Hot Wheels cars but offers a different aesthetic appeal due to its toy-like proportions.
Questions about the Boom Car
Is the Boom Car rare or hard to find?+
No, this car is not considered rare. It was released as part of the standard Mainline assortment in 2024, which means it was produced in high quantities for general retail stores. While finding specific color variations might take some searching depending on your local inventory, you do not need to worry about limited production runs or exclusive release numbers like with Treasure Hunt models.
What colors does the Boom Car come in?+
Collectors can find a few different color schemes for this model. The base is consistently brown across all versions. However, the main body of the vehicle varies between solid yellow and a two-tone mix of red and yellow that includes black flame decals on the upper section. Every version also features matching black interior details regardless of the outer shell colors.
Is this car made from metal or plastic?+
Unlike many Hot Wheels cars that use diecast zinc bodies, the Boom Car is constructed entirely out of durable plastic. This material choice helps keep the weight down and adds to its unique look as a ride-on vehicle rather than a traditional street rod or sports car replica.
